If you are moving to Northern Cyprus, it helps to know where to find hospitals, how pharmacy duty schedules work and what to check before attending an appointment. This guide explains how to find services, not how to diagnose or treat a medical condition. It does not establish anyone’s entitlement to free care.
What to do in a medical emergency
Call 112 for an ambulance in a life-threatening emergency, serious accident or sudden severe illness. Clearly explain your location, nearby landmarks, what happened and a contact number. Do not delay emergency assistance to check a website or locate an on-duty pharmacy.
Our emergency numbers guide also links to official contact directories.
Public hospitals in Northern Cyprus
The Ministry of Health’s published hospital directory includes these principal public hospitals:
- Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital — Nicosia (Lefkoşa).
- Famagusta State Hospital — Famagusta (Gazimağusa).
- Dr Akçiçek State Hospital — Kyrenia (Girne).
- Cengiz Topel Hospital — Lefke / Yeşilyurt area.
This is not a complete list of all hospitals or clinics. The Ministry also maintains information about other specialist services and health centres. Check which department you need, current opening arrangements, appointment processes and referral requirements directly with the relevant facility.

Before a consultation: practical checklist
- Carry your identification or passport, any relevant residence documents and insurance details.
- Confirm that the hospital or clinic provides the required specialty or service.
- Ask about booking, referrals, eligibility, fees and payment methods before a non-emergency visit.
- If privately insured, ask your insurer to confirm coverage in Northern Cyprus and approved providers in writing.
- Bring a list of medications, prescriptions and any relevant existing medical records.
Do not assume all public hospital care is free. Charges and access rules may depend on your legal and insurance status. Verify your specific circumstances rather than relying on a general website.
Finding an on-duty pharmacy
Use the Cyprus Turkish Pharmacists Association’s official on-duty pharmacy list to confirm the date, district, pharmacy, telephone number and published duty hours. Our site’s daily information board provides another route to pharmacy information.
- Call the pharmacy before travelling to confirm it can serve you.
- Duty hours are not identical across districts; some areas use on-call arrangements late in the evening.
- Regular opening hours and on-duty hours differ, and summer schedules may no longer apply during winter.
- Ask a pharmacist about prescription requirements and medicine availability; do not change doses or substitutes without professional advice.
